Each woman has within her the archetype of the Goddess; the feminine emanation of the Divine who is known by various names in indigenous cultures all over the planet. Awareness of her attributes can empower us to live our truth, our magnificence and our beauty, regardless of age, life circumstance or beliefs.

I remember being fascinated with the tales of Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses in my childhood and adolescence. Their abilities seemed clearly out of reach for mere mortals, but still I felt an aspiration to stretch beyond those humanly imposed parameters. In 1984, a groundbreaking book, called Goddesses In Every Woman, written by psychiatrist and Jungian analyst, Jean Shinoda Bolen, was birthed. In it, she highlights the various incarnations of this remarkable energy and how each woman possesses the ability to harness this force for good. No more envying the Goddess, when you can feel that you are part of her and she is a part of you. The feeling of separation from life force energy or Shakti is often what keeps us stuck in roles that no longer serve us. Learning to tap into it, empowers us in all areas of our lives.

How would you live your day if you knew that you had the compassion of Kwan Yin, the independence of Diana/Artemis, the awareness of your sensuality like Aphrodite/Venus, the prosperity consciousness of Lakshmi, the playfulness of Lalita, or the healing, poetry and smithcraft skills of Brigid? Chances are, you would notice relationships with loved ones improving, greater competence at work, better self care and nurturing, and increased confidence in all you do.

I have found that there are many ways to experience the flow of Shakti; including meditation, yoga, dancing, drumming, loving touch with partners and friends, singing, being in nature and writing. I'm certain that you have others that delight and enliven you. By allowing your creativity and wild imagination free reign, the Goddess will live in you.
